Solo Leveling at the Saban

Crunchyroll took a bold step forward when it purchased the licensing rights to Solo Leveling. Unlike most anime, coming from Japan and Japanese manga, Solo Leveling comes from a South Korean manwha. To celebrate the series jumping from the page to the screen, the licensor asked Crunchyroll to make a full event of it.

For the creative team, it was about crafting the perfect tagline for the show and the night, and making the event a celebration of art and talent. After a few iterations, we found our tagline: Whatever Kills You Makes You Stronger.

The show is about a character who dies and then wakes up with a HUD that shows him just how powerful he becomes as he defeats and is defeated by foe after foe. Working with a designer, we paired the perfect fonts, colors, and copy with digital and print displays across the venue. We built a 1:1 replica altar photo op from the show, curated cocktails, ordered cursed blades and monster fang necklaces, and made it a night to remember.

The evening was a such a big hit, they’ve asked we do a similar event at a larger scale for the second season premiere in early 2025.
